Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to the welcome.hel.fi website administered by the City of Helsinki. The web address of the site is https://welcome.hel.fi.

The City of Helsinki published the first version of the welcome.hel.fi website after 23 September 2018. Therefore, it is required by law to meet the accessibility requirements found in the EU Accessibility Directive and the Finnish Act on the Provision of Digital Services(Open in new window). These laws state that websites are required to comply with the A and AA standards of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 criteria.

Helsinki’s accessibility goals

The City of Helsinki is committed to making its websites accessible. The aim is for all of the city’s website content to comply with at least the A and AA standard.

The city also promotes the accessibility of digital services with harmonisation of its publication work and accessibility-related training for its staff. Helsinki provides counselling and support for both people with disabilities and people using assistive technologies.

Accessibility assessment

The Finnish branch of SiteImprove, a multinational website governance and optimisation company, conducted a third party audit of the welcome.helsinki website’s accessibility on 6 September 2021. When the website administrators changed the welcome.helsinki URL to welcome.hel.fi on 31 January 2023, the non-compliance issues of this audit were rectified.

The website administrators continuously monitor welcome.hel.fi accessibility levels during regular website maintenance. In addition, they address detected shortcomings and strive to make the required changes as soon as possible.
